Glorious Day My Precious Fellow Traveler!
Today we look at:
Jesus the ET

Jesus the ET
In addition to being the Messiah, Son of God, and my Lord and Savior, Jesus is an ET, an extraterrestrial being. Yes, I know that sounds odd, but if the Bible is to be believed, it’s undeniably true.
“He [Jesus] said to them [the Jews], “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.” John 8:23 (ESV)
What does this seemingly elementary observation teach us about Jesus, ourselves, and Creation? Plenty.
For starters, it teaches us that we aren’t alone. That there’s a world somewhere up there — beyond the horizon of the observable universe, beyond spacetime — that’s teeming with life. Not life as we know it, but life nevertheless.
“Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here!” And they went up to heaven in a cloud …” Revelation 11:12 (ESV)
It teaches us something else. In science, an hypothesis called Panspermia proposes that the seeds of life were sowed on Earth by some extraterrestrial entity. According to the Bible, it’s true: Life on Earth was sown by God, the extraterrestrial sovereign of the extraterrestrial world Jesus calls home.
It means we aren’t the random offspring of random organic molecules that accidently rained down upon the earth from a random, passing comet, asteroid, or little green Johnny Appleseed. We’re the intentional creations of the timeless, spaceless One who spoke the entire physical cosmos into existence — unique creatures both Darwinian (flesh) and Divine (spirit).
What’s more, Jesus the ET underscores a striking similarity between the Biblical and scientific worldviews. Both take seriously the subject of extraterrestrial worlds and extraterrestrial life. Witness science’s many SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence) programs.
In principle, the excitement Christians feel about finding Jesus is no less genuine — and far more consequential — than the excitement exobiologists feel about finding water on Mars or a planet many lightyears away that might have an atmosphere and therefore life.
Finally, Jesus the ET teaches us that our urge to explore outer space is driven by a human trait far deeper, far more supernatural, than mere curiosity.
We’re curious about what lies beneath Earth’s surface and oceans; but nothing compares to the billions we spend and risks we take to build and board enormous rockets designed to take us up there — to the stars and beyond.
It’s as though deep within us — deep within our very DNA — we have the keen awareness of an extraterrestrial world the Bible describes as being up there. A sacred, supernatural world not of flesh and blood, but of spirit. An extraterrestrial world called heaven, where you and I were conceived and where we feel we belong.
No spacecraft will ever get us to heaven, yet the Bible explains it’s easily within our reach. During our short time on Earth we need only make the decision that we sincerely wish to go there when our flesh and spirit part company.
What decision have you made, my fellow traveler? If you’re sitting on the fence, rest assured there’s plenty of space for you and Jesus the ET is waiting for you with open arms.
“In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” John 14:2 (ESV)
